This advertisement for the Braun Multiquick Culinary is successful because it plays on the viewers desire to be more creative in the kitchen and create culinary masterpieces instead of just plain old dinner. The yellow liquid splattering off the whisk mimics the form of paint splattering off a paint brush. However, after closer inspection the paint can be seen to be coming off a kitchen whisk instead of the paint brush we would expect to see. This imagery is very functional in constructing an association that a Braun Multiquick Culinary is to a cook what a paint brush is to an artist. In addition to the advertisement’s successful use of analogy, the ad is solid compositionally. The usage of curvy, bright yellow lines that splash across the page help create a sense of energy and movement. The random splatter of the yellow lines also keeps the eye moving around the piece giving it balance and preventing the image of the whisk, which is smack in the middle, from becoming a dominant focal point. The decision to use a warm yellow hue for the paint like liquid coming off the mixer against a black background really pushes the liquid forms forward and gives the design a sense of depth. The wide range of shapes and forms produced by the splatter also adds variety to the composition. The imagery of the liquid splattering off the whisk also gives the image an interesting texture.
