Visual Vibrations

Assignment #1

Assignment #1 – Software?

Make art using software that is not typically used for creating artwork.
This project will be presented on screen.

Objectives:
• To open a dialogue about the role of software in art production
• To create, save and transfer files through the network
Note: Since we will be using both Photoshop and Painter in this class, both of those programs are off limits!

ARTIST STATEMENT

The goal of this first assignment was to create art using software that is not normally used for that purpose. I started off playing around in MS Word, but decided to try to work with a program a little less familiar and predictable. After countless hours searching the SourceForge site I found the software program Audacity, a program used for audio editing and recording. Using the program I opened one of my favorite Bob Marley songs “Positive Vibrations” and changed the view of the sound wave to spectrum. Next I selected a portion of the spectrum enlarged it and then split it into two. I then took a screen shot of the two spectrums…and voila my art piece was created.
