Final Project: Materials Contrast
Objective: Using steel tie wire, fabric and selected evocative textural materials, create two or three compelling, three-dimensional forms that relate to each other in scale and shape. Try to create an overall piece that uses metaphor to address one or more of these themes: an expression or evocation of time or place, a sense of self, or a physical or metaphoric journey or transformation.
Requirements: These are the requirements that apply to the sculpture as a whole. There were also requirements specific to each material/form.
- There must be at least two and up to three forms that are strongly abstract or non-objective
- The forms must relate to each other in scale and shape, and must speak to each other visually and conceptually, creating a dialogue so that they give the impression of one integrated sculpture
- The finished work should exhibit a dyncamic and interesting relationship between the positive and negative space – both vis-a-vis the primary and secondary contours of each object, and between the different forms
- There must be a container/contained relationship somewhere in the piece
- You must consider the aspect of color with this piece – you must utilize any harmonic color scheme
- Presentation must include/incorporate some kind of base – either pedestal or a plinth, which also must also be an integral part of the design
