1st Project: Concept Kites
Objective: Build a large art kite using light, thin wood, reed, or bamboo armature material and any light, flexible planar surface material.
Requirements:
- Armature/frame made from reed, bamboo, or wood pieces
- Tie the armature together using thread, string or twine. Use glue or tubing & wire to reinforce the joints. Create a strong form that twil support the “skin” surface, with places to attache the harness
- The form may be your own design, but you may not simple use a standard frame, you must express creativity with the form as well as the surface content
- The surface must be created suing any light flexible planar material
- You must choose a color scheme form this list and use it in the creation of your kite: analogous, complementary, split complementary, triad, tetrad, analogous with complement
- It must be at least 42 inches in at least one dimension (not counting tail) and it may be as large as your body. It must not weigh more than 10 pounds
- Created content must be a factor of the design. Send a clear message – communicate an idea
- It does not need to be able to fly, but it should look like it could – it must address “kiteness” in some way; it should look like a kite or address the idea of what a kite is
